This is a beautiful White line woodwork local art piece titled "Moondance" by local artist Michele Sol.
Artist Michele Sol creates White-Line Woodcut Prints, also known as Provincetown Prints. This American form of print making was created in 1914 by a group of artists living in Provincetown MA. These artist changed the traditional Japanese woodblock printing, Moku Hanga, from carving several blocks of wood to carving an entire scene on one piece of wood. Once the image is carved, the wood is then painted using water colors, and printed one section at a time. A baron or wooden spoon is used to rub the back of paper to print the image from the wood block. This is a slow repeated process, building the paint layers until the entire scene is created. Each print is printed on traditional Japanese printing paper. Carved wood blocks can be used to create new prints. Though the image is the same, the colors and variations differ, resulting in each print being an original artwork.
